Autumn 2019

Autumn 2019

We are now a few weeks into the new year and our units are all busy - it is wonderful to welcome new members. In my own unit, I feel very privileged as I have Guides joining from BGO units in Ile de France, The Hague, Cyprus and Malaysia. It makes us all realise how big our organisation is and it is great to hear about where they have come from.

Across our County, I know that many camps and residential events are taking place—great times to know our young members get to have fun, be independent and explore.

In addition, units are taking advantage of the weather and long evenings to run meetings outdoors and arrange activities for the girls. Thank you to everyone for your time in making these things happen.

Winter 2019

A couple of weeks ago the County team, including nearly all our District Commissioners got together for a weekend in Leuven Belgium. As well as completing the level 4 safe space training, we had a great weekend with time to work together to see how best we can support the County and how we can best publicise our units and recruit more members. One of the best ways is by word of mouth - so please, if you are reading this, do spread the word about how great we are and let people know how they can get involved.

After the introduction of the new database system GO last summer, this year we see the exciting launch of the new Girlguiding UK programme across all sections. Much of the detail will not be known until the launch on 21st July (Why they chose the international day of Belgium I don’t know!).

Spring 2017

We have had a busy year across the County, with the Brownie holiday just outside Brussels last June, a great weekend with lots of fun and activities around the theme of Brazil, South America and the Olympics. We then had the first County Camp for many years. Despite the rain, the girls had a great weekend particularly going shopping and cooking what they had bought on open fires. More recently the Rainbows had a joint party across the internet, sharing songs and games. They all enjoyed being able to see other Rainbows from across the County.

Today was the annual Brussels & Waterloo girlguiding and scout Carol Service, a lovely event to start off the festivities. The Guides and Rangers spoke clearly doing their reading and the Brownies and Rainbows all sang their carols wonderfully – well aided by their leaders. This year, the young people donated games and a collection was taken for a Brussels asylum seekers centre.

Summer 2016

As the academic year comes to a close, many units and districts will be saying farewell to girls and leaders, the nature of our County being that many families move regularly and new members arrive in the Autumn. In my opinion our ability to embrace change and be so welcoming is one of the best things about Guiding in our area.

Spring 2016

We have recently held our annual Leaders County Training in Luxemburg, a busy weekend, but rewarding and informative for everyone who attended. My personal congratulations to the leaders who received Good Service and Long Service Awards, our leaders do a great job on a weekly basis and it is pleasing to be able to reward them in this way.
