Summer 2017 message from the County Commissioner

Emma Nalson

Summer has certainly arrived across the county with warm weather and lots of sunshine. Units have taken advantage of this to have lots of fun outside, with camps, unit meetings in the woods and lots of other things going on.

Our annual leaders training weekend was held in Brussels this year, a great opportunity for leaders to be together share ideas and learn from our wonderful trainers and from each other. It is also an occasion to recognise the service of our members and this was so special this year as we presented a 50-year service award to Pauline Chechin, I believe that this is a first in BGIFC. But I would also like to say well done to the other recipients as we also presented awards for 40,30,20,10 and 5 years’ service. Well done ladies.

Congratulations also to Hannah in Brussels on her Queens Guide Award, which was presented to her by the British Ambassador to Belgium. A very special evening. From a girls first Rainbow Roundabout badge to these awards Girlguiding recognises achievement at all levels and each is very special.

Many of our members will be joining other Brownies, Guides and senior section members at the BGIFC Challenge 17 week near Swindon. I am sure that it will be a lot of fun and I am looking forward to meeting friends old and new. Before then I am leading a group of Guides and Rangers on a trip to Kandersteg International Scout centre in Switzerland, where we will also take a day trip to the World Guide Centre “Our Chalet”.

Whatever you are doing this summer I hope you have a lot of fun!

All the best
