Summer 2018

Emma Nalson

After the introduction of the new database system GO last summer, this year we see the exciting launch of the new Girlguiding UK programme across all sections. Much of the detail will not be known until the launch on 21st July (Why they chose the international day of Belgium I don’t know!).

What we do know is that the programme will be standardised across all four sections, making progression through the organisation for our young people far more stream-lined. This won’t mean that there is any issue joining at any time, but the girls who move up will be familiar with the set up.

We also know that the program has been built around 6 themes: Know Myself, Express Myself, Be Well, Have Adventures, Take Action and Skills for My Future. Skill builder badges will be earned as the girls develop core life skills around these themes. With new achievement awards in each section. We will still have the 5 essentials, interest badges, girl-led guiding and the flexibility to include different things.

As a taster, some of the new interest badge topics have already been released, with Aviation for Brownies, Saver for Guides and Digital Design for Rangers. I am sure that our girls will have lots to enjoy working towards over the coming months and years.

If you are moving away this summer, all the best, I hope that you can continue to be involved in girlguiding; don’t forget there is always Friends of British Girlguiding Overseas that you can join.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful summer. Thank you to all our volunteers. Without you , our organisation would not operate and I hope that you all enjoy the break and I look forward to hearing about all the amazing things that happen across the County.
